About

Made by people who write books from conversations.

Talk Your Book is a free set of guides and a session planning worksheet for people who would rather talk their book than type it. It is made by Scribe Media, a book writing and publishing company in Austin, Texas.

Why this site exists

Plenty of people who know their subject cold, and can talk about it for hours, never finish a book because the blank page stops them. Talking is a legitimate way to write a book. It just needs a method: an outline, focused sessions, clean recordings, and a careful edit from speech to prose. This site lays that method out in full, so you can do it yourself.

Who we are

Scribe Media has published more than 3,000 books, including 23 New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestsellers. Its main service, Scribe Professional, is built on the method this site describes: a professional writer interviews the author over a series of calls and writes the book in the author's voice. Scribe also coaches authors who write their own books, and publishes finished manuscripts. The legal company is Bond Financial Technologies Holdings, LLC, doing business as Scribe Media.

Because Scribe sells book services, you should know that. We have tried to make every guide useful whether or not you ever talk to us. Only one guide, when to hand the recordings to a writer, describes Scribe's services in detail, and it says so at the top.

Where the facts come from

  • Speaking rates come from a published study of recorded conversations from the University of Pennsylvania's Linguistic Data Consortium, linked where it is used.
  • Transcription prices and privacy terms come from each provider's own pages, checked on the date shown. Prices change; check the provider before you buy.
  • Scribe's prices, services and time estimates come from scribemedia.com/services and scribemedia.com/pricing, checked October 20, 2026.
  • Author examples come from Scribe's published success stories, and each one links to the full story on scribemedia.com.
  • Worked examples, such as the before and after transcript, are written by us and labeled as examples.
